Comsewogue Kicks off 2025-2026 School Year

Posted Date: 9/24/25 (7:24 PM)

The Comsewogue School District began the 2025–2026 school year with a purposeful and uplifting approach, dedicating the first week of school to community building and social-emotional learning (SEL) across all grade levels.

“At Comsewogue, we believe the foundation for academic success is emotional well-being and a sense of connection,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jennifer Quinn. “These first days are about more than just routines, they’re about building a school community where all students feel seen, supported and inspired to grow.”

Rather than diving directly into academics, students and staff participated in a series of interactive and inclusive activities designed to ease the transition from summer break and set a positive tone for the year ahead. Teachers led team-building exercises, word games, scavenger hunts, and collaborative challenges that were all centered on helping students connect, build trust, and become familiar with their learning environment.

One standout activity saw students writing fun personal facts on paper chain links, which were then joined to create a giant chain symbolizing unity and shared experience. Students also used sidewalk chalk to decorate school entrances with positive and encouraging messages for their peers.

Dr. Quinn visited each school, personally welcoming students and reading inspirational books aloud to foster a sense of belonging and motivation in every building.
The district’s commitment to social-emotional learning is a hallmark of its student-centered approach, ensuring that each child begins the year not just ready to learn, but ready to thrive.
